MCO: 596 nabbed for flouting SOP, 64 remanded

KUALA LUMPUR: Police yesterday nabbed 596 people for flouting Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) under the current Movement Control Order (MCO).

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said from the total, 532 people were issued compounds while the remaining 64 were remanded.

He said the MCO task force for SOP compliance led by police conducted 65,436 inspections nationwide.

The premises checked were supermarkets (3,967), restaurants (6,031), factories (1,642), markets and Pasar Tani (2,664), banks (3,902), government offices (815), places of worship (3,239) and recreational areas (1,461).

On Op Benteng, Ismail Sabri the police, armed forces, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Malaysian Border Security Agency (Aksem) as well as other security and enforcement agencies also mounted 537 roadblocks nationwide on Monday, for Op Benteng (46), Op Penawar (482) and Op Benteng Aksem (nine).

"During the operations, one illegal migrant and two smugglers were arrested, with two land vehicles seized," he said.
