Kids: Learning via DidikTV KPM is 'fun'

KOTA KINABALU: Naz Izuddin Hairom, 8, shifted his focus to the television screen as he listened attentively to two teachers explaining about balanced diet.

The SK Pekan Putatan pupil was accompanied by his siblings, Hani Ummairah Hairom, 11, and Najmee Ar' Raushan Hairom, 13, who gathered in front of the television for the launch of DidikTV KPM on Wednesday. Their mother, Nur Azizah Ibrahim, 41, was also with them.

The government's special education channel was broadcasting "Tahap 1 β€” Makanan Seimbang" teaching session at 9.30am, where two teachers explained about the food pyramid and daily nutritious food guide.

They also displayed a variety of meals on the table, while engaging with pupils who attended a live video conferencing, as well as those watching the television programme.

Once a while, Naz Izuddin would answer some questions or nodded to show that he understood what was being taught.

"It's fun learning this way because I can understand better. It's not boring," he said at the family home in Putatan near here.

His sister, Hani Ummairah, a Year 5 pupil of SK Pekan Putatan, said watching DidikTV KPM was akin to attending a classroom.

She said she was interested in the way the teachers explained the lessons, making it easy for pupils to understand a topic.

As for Najmee, he did not mind joining his younger siblings in watching the primary school topics as it would help him to reinforce what he learned in primary school.

"Usually, we study using a handphone and sometimes attend Zoom classroom.

"This is my first time watching the education channel on television and I more or less know what to expect when DidikTV KPM broadcasted secondary school subjects.

"The education channel is fun. Students get to learn twice through our teachers (on WhatsApp) and the television programme," said the SMK Putatan student.

Nur Azizah said she usually monitored her children's WhatsApp chat groups even when she was at work to ensure that they did not miss any lesson or homework.

"The teachers explain the subject and tell the students to click on certain links for better understanding. With DidikTV KPM, I find that students can have a better learning experience. When they sit in front of the television, it is like they are sitting in a classroom with a teacher.

"It is an engaging teaching-learning session because children love to see pictures and demonstrations. I hope DidikTV KPM provides the daily programme schedule so that students and parents will know the suitable time to follow certain subjects."
