EMCO in Ipoh flat: Cops locate 22 foreign workers, one still missing

IPOH: Police have located 22 out of 23 foreign workers who were staying at Flat Anjung Tawas Damai here after the area was placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).

District police chief Assistant Commisioner A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said the employer of the foreign workers did not have an updated record of their current addresses.

"We located 22 out of the 23 foreign workers last night. They were taken to the Covid-19 Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC) here before being transferred to the PKRC in MAEPS, Serdang," he said when contacted today.

Yesterday, A. Asmadi in a press conference said 23 foreign workers staying at the five-storey flat could not be located.

He said they were workers of the Imperial Garment factory which was forced to close last month after Covid-19 cases were detected there.

There are 439 residents in the flat and 377 of them including 43 locals have tested positive for Covid-19.

On Feb 28, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said EMCO would be enforced at the flat starting March 1 until March 14.

Ismail Sabri said the EMCO was to enable the ministry to conduct targeted screening on the hostel's residents and subsequently to prevent further infections in the community.
