Almost two million Malaysians have registered for Covid-19 vaccination

KUALA LUMPUR: Almost two million Malaysians have registered with the government for the Covid-19 vaccination programme.

However, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the figure is still low compared to the total population.

He urged all Malaysians to get registered soon in order to stop the chain of Covid-19 infection.

"The first batch of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine comprising 312,390 doses arrived on Feb 21, which kickstarted the first phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP) on Feb 26.

"Until today, 1,909,585 Malaysians have registered. However, this number is small if we compare it to Malaysia's total population of almost 33 million.

"Therefore, I call on all Malaysians to register for the immunisation programme through the MySejahtera mobile application or through www.vaksincovid.gov.my.

"The people can also go straight to any public hospital or clinic starting March 5," he said in a press conference today.

He reminded that those who wish to travel abroad once the borders are reopened will need to be inoculated, adding that being vaccinated will be one of the main requirements to enter other countries.

"We have learnt that the Saudi Arabian government is expected to make Covid-19 vaccination mandatory for Haj and Umrah pilgrims," he said.

Currently, registration for the Covid-19 vaccine can be made via the MySejahtera application.

The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme handbook lists five methods to register for the vaccine. Other than via MySejahtera, hotline and website registration, the public can also register at public and private health facilities, as well as during outreach programmes for rural and interior areas.
