KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government will allow inter-zone travel, but with strict conditions.
State Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said travellers must use registered tour companies to travel across the zones.
"Movement is only allowed using tour vehicles registered with the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry. Individual travel is not permitted.
"Tour companies have to apply for permission from the police for travelling across zones," he said in a statement, adding that the vehicle should not stop at non-designated zones.
Instead of allowing inter-state travelling, Sabah has grouped its districts into six zones.
The first zone comprises Kota Kinabalu, Kota Belud, Ranau, Tuaran, Penampang, Putatan and Papar, while Zone 2 comprising Beaufort, Kuala Penyu and Sipitang.
Zone 3 consists of Kudat, Kota Marudu and Pitas, while Zone 4 comprises Sandakan, Beluran, Kinabatangan and Tongod.
Tawau, Semporna, Lahad Datu, Kunak and Kalabakan are in Zone 5, while Keningau, Tambunan and Tenom are in Zone 6.
"Tourism activities, however, are only limited within the country. Sabah has yet to allow tourists from outside of the state."
Today, the state recorded 38 Covid-19 cases while 70 patients have been discharged.
Meanwhile, Petagas Kapitan Chung Ming Kong is urging the people to observe the standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the Qingming festival or tomb-sweeping day.
This year, it falls on April 4 but people will start observing the festival as early as 10 days before up to 10 days after.
"Although the authorities did not specify the SOPs, visitors during the Qingming must practise social distancing when performing prayer rituals and customs.
"Visitors should exercise responsibility in keeping the area clean and avoid littering especially of used face masks.
"As the pandemic is reaching a controllable level, everyone should not be complacent or take things easy."
