KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will consider buying its own Covid-19 vaccines if the supply is inadequate, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
"The federal government has done its best in acquiring vaccines. (For now), those vaccines are enough.
"However, if it is not adequate, Sabah will buy its own vaccines for its people," said the state Finance Minister during the handover of assistance to fire victims at Sembulan hall here.
Yesterday, National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the government has no objections if states want to buy vaccines on their own.
To date, Selangor, Pahang, Johor and Sarawak had shown interest in procuring their own vaccines.
Since the Covid-19 immunisation programme started on March 4, Sabah has vaccinated 32,711 people as of yesterday.
Earlier, Hajiji had given food aid assistance and RM500 each to 65 households who lost their homes during a recent fire at Kampung Lok Urai at Pulau Gaya island here.
"Sabah is a caring government, we will not let our people suffer and are hoping a little help here would reduce the burden of the people.
"As for the resettlement, the government will look into how to help them as those victims are our citizens."
Present were Sabah Community Development and People's Wellbeing minister Shahelmy Yahya and mayor Noorliza Awang Alip.
