Man run over by car as he was crossing Jalan Maharajalela

KUALA LUMPUR: A 35-year-old Bangladeshi man was injured when a car crashed into him after he fell down while crossing a busy road in the city yesterday.

The labourer was crossing Jalan Maharajalela at about 11am when he suddenly lost his footing and fell on the fast lane of the stretch.

He fell in such a way that he ended up lying across the road. A BMW car, which was on the fast lane ran over him.

The incident was captured by another motorist's dashcam. The footage has since been circulating on social media platforms, including Facebook.

City Traffic Investigations and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkefly Yahya said police received a report from the driver of the car after the incident went viral.

"The driver, a 55-year-old workshop owner came forward and lodged a police report at 3pm today. Preliminary investigations showed the car driver could not stop in time due to the proximity of the victim and the car.

"After the crash, the driver got out of his car and he then rushed to send the injured victim to Kuala Lumpur Hospital."

Zulkefly said the victim was taken to the hospital's emergency department and then given outpatient treatment.

"Checks showed the victim only sustained minor injuries to his arms, elbow, knee with some bruises on his forehead. He was treated in the green zone and was allowed to return home the same day," Zulkefly said.

He said the case is investigated under Rules 50 LN166/59 for obstruction of traffic.
