Khairy: Efforts being made to improve NIP registration rate

KUALA LUMPUR: A more concerted effort is being made to improve the registration rate of the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme (NIP).

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister (Mosti) Khairy Jamaluddin said community outreach programme was being carried out, in addition to the existing means of registration like MySejahtera app.

"We can see a stable rate of registration, with about two million out of nine million people in the phase two, namely, senior citizens, individuals with comorbidities and the disabled, have registered so far.

"Door-to-door registration drives are being carried out with the cooperation of other agencies like Nadma (the National Disaster Management Agency), Civil Defence Force, district office and state governments," he said in a Press conference via Zoom today.

Khairy said healthcare workers including doctors were also engaged in encouraging their patients coming to the health centres for check-ups and treatment to register for NIP.

"When we decided to bring forward those in phase 3 (aged 18 and above) to get vaccinated, it does not mean we have given up on those in phase 2 category.

"Once they (people in phase 2 category) register for the vaccination, they will be put top of the queue.

"Meanwhile, while waiting for them, as long as there are sufficient supplies, we will start with those in the third phase."

He said special arrangements would be made for vaccine recipients with difficulties to be present at the vaccination centre, including those who were bed-ridden, to have vaccinators sent to them instead.

On a separate matter, he said, several venues, including stadiums and conference halls were being identified to be used as the vaccination centres for the NIP's second and third phases.

He said details would be announced later.
