Ban on interstate travel remains

KUALA LUMPUR: The ban on interstate travel will remain in effect to stem the tide of Covid-19 infections in the country.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the decision came after the Health Ministry identified 38 clusters with 5,471 positive cases linked to interstate travel.

"In April alone, the country has logged seven clusters with 423 positive cases related to interstate travel.

"Similarly, the Pasai cluster in Sarawak, the state's largest cluster, was due to an infected individual who had travelled home for Christmas holidays.

"Yesterday, Kelantan recorded the highest number of infections, leading to all districts in the state being designated as red zones yesterday.

"This was due to interstate travel which was allowed back in December 2020," he said, during a press conference via Facebook today.

Ismail Sabri said the government was also in the midst of reviewing and updating the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitiri celebrations.

He also announced that Aidilfitri bazaars can now operate until 2am from tomorrow.
