KUALA LUMPUR: Police yesterday arrested 99 people for failing to register their personal details before entering business premises as required by the government amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
They were part of 243 Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) violators who had committed other offences such as not wearing face masks (51), no physical distancing (37), involved in entertainment centre activities (18) and others (38).
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 219 offenders were compounded while 24 were remanded.
The compliance task force, involving 3,042 teams with 15,446 personnel, conducted over 63,000 checks on premises such as supermarkets, restaurants, factories, banks, government officers, markets, places of worship, recreational spots as well as land, air and water terminals.
Ismail Sabri, who is also Senior Defence Minister, said 10,231 foreign workers had tested positive for Covid-19 since the government made it compulsory for those in the sector to undergo screenings for the virus from Feb 1 this year.
"Yesterday, two foreign workers tested positive, out of 726 tested.
"Cumulatively, the Human Resources Ministry said 689,106 foreign workers under 35,572 employers have been tested.
"The rest tested negative," he added.
On the multi-agency enforcement Op Benteng, Ismail Sabri said 22 illegal foreigners were arrested while there was a seizure of three land vehicles.
A total of 272 roadblocks were mounted nationwide by the Armed Forces, police and People's Volunteer Corps as well as the Malaysian Border Security Agency.
Ismail Sabri added that 826 travelers arrived in Malaysia yesterday and have been quarantined at the designated stations nationwide.
Since July 24 last year, 184,516 Malaysians have returned and been placed at 74 hotels and nine public training institutions and private learning institutes.
Of the number, 7,262 people have been quarantined, 175,648 were allowed to go home while 1,606 were sent to the hospital.
