3 areas placed under EMCO

KUALA LUMPUR: Three areas in Perak, Melaka and Sabah will be placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) for 14 days starting May 7.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the areas affected were Kampung Lubok Katak in Batang Padang, Tapah, Perak; Kampung Permatang Tulang Mukim Sebatu in Jasin, Melaka and Sekolah Menengah Ugama (SMU) Pantai Manis in Papar, Sabah.

He said the Health Ministry detected 22 positive cases in Kampung Lubok Katak after screening 45 residents.

"The ministry also reported a surge of cases with high infectivity rate recorded within a week in the area.

"The EMCO enables targeted testing to be conducted and also to control the outbreak at these localities," said Ismail Sabri in a statement today.

For Kampung Permatang Tulang Mukim Sebatu in Jasin, Melaka, Ismail Sabri said 83 people tested positive for the virus after 458 residents were screened.

"There are still 195 individuals who are waiting for their screening test results. The Health Ministry informed the active cases in the locality has a high infectivity rate," he said.

Ismail Sabri said 16 individuals were found positive of Covid-19 after 441 individuals were screened by the Health Ministry at Sekolah Menengah Ugama (SMU) Pantai Manis, Papar in Sabah.

He said the school will be under EMCO until May 20 to allow the Health Ministry to implement targeted screening to all relevant individuals and to curb Covid-19 from spreading outside the locality.
