KL, Putrajaya schools closed tomorrow and Friday

KUALA LUMPUR: All schools in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya will be closed tomorrow and Friday to reduce the movement of students amidst the surge in Covid-19 cases.

It would mean that these schools will have an extra two days break as they will begin a weeklong vacation for Hari Raya Aidilfitri starting next Monday.

The Education Ministry said in a statement the decision was made following a decision by Selangor authorities to close all schools in the state tomorrow and Friday.

It said the move was needed due to the geographic locations of schools in Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, which border Selangor.

"This directive was issued after considering the recommendation of the Selangor State Special Security Committee meeting that all schools in Selangor will be closed from tomorrow and Friday to reduce movement in the community in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday.

"This decision was also made after taking into account the schooling session which is only two days left before the school closes due to the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday.

"Following the decision, all schools under the ministry in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya are closed on May 6 and 7," it said.
