Zionist' propaganda is like a cheap novel, says Hamas leader

KUALA LUMPUR: The Zionist regime's propaganda is no longer accepted by the international community after it witnessed the atrocities committed by the Israeli army against the Palestinians, Senior Hamas leader Dr Khaled Qadoumi said.

Describing the Zionist's propaganda as "a cheap novel", Khaled said this is happening after Israel proved to the world that it is willing to cross "all red lines of humanity".

Speaking to the New Straits Times, Khaled said despite the Zionist's efforts to conceal its true colours, social media platforms have helped the world see the truth.

"The Zionist's propaganda is now turning into a cheap novel.

"Their narrative is no longer accepted because they proved that they have no problem killing infants, pregnant women and destroying residential buildings as well as forcing civilians to live on the streets by stealing their homes.

"The world is watching despite Israel bombing international media offices in Gaza a few days ago to prevent the public from finding out what's happening in the Gaza strip," he said.

On Saturday, Al-Jazeera reported a building that housed international media offices in the Gaza Strip was hit by an Israeli air raid that demolished the structure.

This was despite attempts by journalists and editors asking the Israeli army to postpone its attack for several minutes so they could save some of their cameras and other studio equipment.

The building, among others, housed Al-Jazeera and the Associated Press' news agency bureaus.

As of press time, Israeli airstrikes have killed 213 Palestinians including 61 children in Gaza while rockets fired by Hamas have killed 10 people in Israel including a child, according to officials on both sides.

Commenting on the rockets fired by Hamas into the Israeli territory, Khaled described the resistance movement's action as a rebellion and self-defence against the continuous violence by the regime.

"What we did was self-defence. Our resistance is a reaction to the massacre done by the Zionist regime for decades.

"We are living under an occupation. Should the oppressed keep quiet and allow themselves to be persecuted forever?

"How much more can one take after all the killings, bombings and stealing of our homes for the past 73 years? As humans, we have a right to self-defense," he said.

Following Saturday's incident, press freedom advocates have condemned Israel's bombing of media offices, calling it a brazen attempt to "silence" journalists covering the Israeli military's ongoing offensive that has killed scores of people.

Since the conflict began over a week ago, Israel has levelled a number of Gaza City's tallest office and residential buildings, alleging that Hamas was operating an intelligence cell out of that office building.

Despite growing calls for an end to the bombardment, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the attacks on the Palestinian enclave would rage on.
