More PKRCs to be set up in Pahang

KUANTAN: Pahang will open more Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC) to cope with the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the state.

State Civil Defence Force (APM) director Colonel Che Adam A Rahman said the state Covid-19 task force in their meeting yesterday identified several suitable halls in the state capital.

"The new PKRCs are part of early preparations to accommodate patients. The task force will finalise the chosen premises within the next 24 hours before setting up the required facilities," he said when contacted.

He said the existing three PKRCs – the Housing and Local Government training institute in Bukit Tinggi (Bentong), the Health Ministry training institute and the Pahang Sports Complex (Sukpa), both in Kuantan - have yet to reach maximum capacity.

"We have patients coming in and leaving (after quarantine ends) so the PKRCs still can accommodate new patients. The PKRC in Sukpa which caters to 250 male patients currently has 156 patients," he said.

Meanwhile, a state Covid-19 task force spokesman ruled out the possibility of a total lockdown in the state capital saying currently most of the cases were within clusters.

"Certain clusters have been identified as the cause of the reported outbreak and the situation is still under control. However, there are plans to impose stricter measures and it will be revealed soon," he said.
