500,000 retail workers to receive vaccines starting next month

PUTRAJAYA: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry is working with the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) to roll out the Economic Frontliners Vaccination Programme for the retail sector next month.

Its minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said as economic frontliners, the retail sector was crucial in ensuring the supply of food and daily necessities were always sufficient to meet market demand.

He said more than 500,000 retail workers would benefit from the programme.

"As such, the ministry would like to call on all companies under the retail sector to join this vaccination programme to break the chain of the Covid-19 infection."

He said giving vaccines to retail workers would indirectly help achieve herd immunity as promoted by the government.

"Through this programme, the ministry is given the responsibility to plan and coordinate the retail sector vaccination programme with all relevant industry players.

"At the same time, we also collaborated with Malaysia Shopping Malls Association, Malaysia Retailers Association and Malaysia Retail Chain Association to establish vaccination centres at strategic locations nationwide," he said in a statement today.

Earlier, Nanta held a meeting with CITF and 60 industry players including representatives from the associations.

He added companies interested in participating in the programme can submit their applications on https://www.vaksincovid.gov.my/ or contact the ministry through the Secretariat of Distributive Trade and Services Industry at 03- 8882 5881/ 5905 or email to spip@kpdnhep.gov.my.
