20 per cent decline in Covid-19 cases

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of positive Covid-19 cases being detected daily nationwide has seen a decrease of about 20 per cent over seven days in the 22nd week of this year compared to the previous week.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the reduction in the number of cases provides some relief to the people after witnessing a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases recently.

He also said that imported cases have also declined for the past few months due to the government's policy of closing the country's borders.

"The closure of official borders, such as at airports is the focus of the government to ensure that there is no entry of foreigners contributing to the spread of Covid-19 cases in the country.

"The national security forces comprising the police, armed forces, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Malaysian Border Control Agency and People's Volunteers Corps (Rela) are working hard conducting patrols and ensure the safety and health of the people is assured.

"With the decrease in daily cases, the government urges the people not to be complacent on the compliance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and flatten the curve," he said in a statement today.
