Paul Yong rape case: IO tells High Court semen stains found on bedsheet, floor

IPOH: Eight semen stains were found on a bedsheet in the house of former Perak executive councillor Paul Yong Choo Kiong, the High Court was told.

Field investigation officer Inspector V. Simon, 38, who is attached to the Perak police Forensics Department, said this when identifying more than 10 case items before judge Datuk Abdul Wahab Mohamed.

"There were eight spots believed to be semen on a white-coloured bedsheet," said Simon, who has been serving as a field investigation officer since 2018.

"The case items also involved a total of four strands of hairs found on the bed, and two swabs sticks, of semen which had been found on the floor beside the bed at the crime scene.

"Among the other case items were a piece of bedsheet which had been cut, a mop stick, a grey-coloured pair of men's underwear, a brown T-shirt, a pair of black and red striped shorts, a size S white round-neck T-shirt, blue shorts, pink panties and a blue bra," he said.

To a question from deputy public prosecutor Liyana Zawani Mohd Radzi, Simon said he had packed the last four case items at the investigation officer's office.

Meanwhile, Yong's counsels Datuk Rajpal Singh and Salim Bashir requested to cross-examine the witness tomorrow.

Wahab granted the request and the trial will resume at 10.15am tomorrow.

Yong, who is former Perak housing, local government, public transport, non-Muslim affairs and new villages committee chairman, was charged with raping his 23-year-old Indonesian maid at a house in Meru Desa Park, between 8.15pm and 9.15pm on July 7, 2019.

On Aug 28, 2019, the Tronoh assemblyman pleaded not guilty to raping his maid.

The accused is charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum of 20 years' imprisonment and a whipping upon conviction.
