PM visits Klang's HTAR

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin visited the Forensic Department of the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang today.

As part of his visit, the prime minister was given a briefing by HTAR's forensic expert, Dr Nur Ayutimasery Abdullah.

Yesterday, the Covid-19 wards at HTAR received 151 additional beds from the Health Ministry, bringing the total number of beds to 606 units.

The ministry's chief secretary, Datuk Mohd Shafiq Abdullah, said the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) bed capacity for Covid-19 wards will soon be increased from 51 to 72.

Earlier, the media reported that HTAR took the initiative of repurposing certain areas, such as its trainee doctors' hostel and outpatient treatment complex, into temporary wards to treat Covid-19 patients.

The hospital, in a statement yesterday, said it has witnessed a surge in the number of patients daily, resulting in congestion until some beds had to be placed outside the hospital to attend to Covid-19 patients.

Since the repurposing exercise, the hospital said it has continued admitting patients since 9pm yesterday.

Previously, it was reported that HTAR was congested with beds placed outside the hospital's Emergency Department due to an overwhelming number of patients.

The area has now been emptied after the hospital staff successfully arranged and mobilised new facilities to accommodate the patients.
