Perak yet to receive remaining July vaccine doses promised, says MB

LENGGONG: Perak has yet to receive its remaining 250,569 doses of vaccines as promised by the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad said.

"We should get the vaccines by the end of this month, which means this week. But the quota (vaccine) which we were supposed to receive, has yet to arrive.

"Some vaccination centres have slowed down due to lack of supply," he said after presenting food baskets to inland fishermen at the Pusat Pekasam Negara, here, today.

On July 28, Saarani urged those in the state who had yet to receive their vaccination appointment dates to be patient, as another 250,569 doses of vaccines were expected to arrive by the end of this week.

Saarani had said as of Monday (July 26), Perak had received 1,191,789 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech, Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines, and the vaccine supply scheduled for this month was 688,760 doses.

He had said between July 1 and July 26, the state received 438,191 doses while the remaining 250,569 doses of vaccines were expected to arrive by the end of the month.

Saarani added that vaccine distribution had been focused in the Klang Valley which caused several states including Perak to experience lack of vaccine supply.

When asked whether the Sungai Siput Hospital would turn into a full Covid-19 hospital following the rise of cases in Perak, Saarani said there had yet to be an official decision on that matter.

However, Saarani said that preparations towards making the hospital to accommodate Covid-19 patients were there.

"There is no decision yet. It is just a suggestion and preparation if it (critical situation) happens such as the establishment of the Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Center at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park in Serdang," he added.
