KUALA LUMPUR: The Greater Kuala Lumpur Special Task Force is ramping up efforts to improve Covid-19 management in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Negri Sembilan.
Among the initiatives include increasing the capacity of Covid-19 hospitals, as well as strengthening collaborations in terms of ambulance services with various agencies.
Task force commander Dr Chong Chee Kheong said there are currently 29 government hospitals, 51 private hospitals and two Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRC) catering specifically to Covid-19 cases.
"This includes the four full Covid-19 hospitals namely Ampang Hospital, Serdang Hospital, Selayang Hospital and Sungai Buloh Hospital.
"We will be increasing these hospitals' capacities, including the number of beds as well as intensive care unit (ICU) beds by repurposing some areas in the hospital into patients wards.
"Non-Covid-19 patient cases will be outsourced to private hospitals, which will allow more beds in the government hospitals for Covid-19 patients.
"At the same time, we will be strengthening our collaborations for ambulance services with the Civil Defence Force, Fire and Rescue Department as well as non-governmental organisations, including Malaysian Red Crescent Society and St John Ambulance," he said in a statement, today.
Dr Chong, who is Health deputy director-general, said Covid-19 asymptomatic and mild-symptom patients will be monitored through the virtual Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC).
"We will also be collaborating with NGOs and volunteers in strengthening our contact tracing activities."
Dr Chong noted that government hospitals will always strive to ensure every patient received optimal treatment.
He also advised the community to always adhere to standard operating procedures (SOP) even after they have completed their vaccination cycle.
