More than 50 per cent of Malaysia's adult population fully vaccinated

KUALA LUMPUR: Nearly 470,000 vaccine doses were administered in the country yesterday, increasing the cumulative number of doses administered to 30,840,093.

The Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee (JKJAV) in a social media update earlier today said 159,792 people received their first dose, while 309,898 were administered their second dose as of 11.59pm yesterday.

Nationwide, 77.4 per cent of the adult population have received one dose, while 54.3 per cent have completed both doses.

Against the total population, 55.5 per cent received their first dose, and 38.9 per cent received both doses.

In the Klang Valley, 107.7 per cent of the adult population has been vaccinated at least once, while 81.3 per cent completed both doses.

The vaccination percentages for Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Selangor are aggregated to reflect the coverage in the Klang Valley.

JKJAV said the data exceeds 100 per cent due to population statistics from the Department of Statistics Malaysia, not accounting for changes in population size since the last census, undocumented residents and also due to vaccination of undocumented residents and non-residents.

Labuan and Sarawak are at the top of the list, with 99.7 per cent and 89.7 per cent of the adult population receiving at least their first dose.

The percentage of those who received their second dose in Labuan and Sarawak are 90.6 per cent and 84.1 per cent respectively.

The two states with the lowest vaccination rates per adult population are Sabah (51.7 per cent for first dose, and 29.3 per cent for the second dose), and Kelantan (53.3 per cent for first dose and 34.4 per cent for the second dose).
