Cops keeping a close eye at crowded Bukit Jalil PPV

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are keeping a close eye on the Bukit Jalil National Stadium vaccination centre (PPV) to ensure that things are smooth following a large turnout.

Cheras district police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Idzam Jaafar said police have increased its personnel from 38 to 78 including seven traffic units to manage the sizeable crowd.

"Based on observation as early as 9.30am, the attendance was well over 18,000, whereas the vaccine recipients should only be for 12,000.

"We ordered others to leave the area," he said in a statement today.

He said police personnel will be on duty to monitor the centre as early as 6am compared to 7am now for 5,000 recipients.

"The personnel in duty will make sure standard operating procedure (SOP) are observed and the recipients are separated into two lines.

"The recipients were also divided according to gender with senior citizens given priority," he said.

The personnel on duty were split into five teams at entrance A for the first dose, entrance E for the second dose, as well as a presence in parking areas A and B.

"We will control the crowd from the moment they come down from busses entering via entrance A and B.

"Entrance A has a larger crowd as it is for first dose recipients, while entrance E is manageable because of a lesser number of people," he said.
