KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Zaman Khan Rahim Khan died earlier today. He was 80.
The former Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief breathed his last at about 10.15am at the National Heart Institute (IJN).
He was placed at IJN's High Dependency Unit (HDU) last week after being transferred from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
His remains will be taken to Masjid Bukit Aman for prayers before the burial at the Bukit Kiara Muslim cemetery after Asar prayers.
The late Zaman Khan is a well-known figure among the police fraternity.
Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tun Hanif Omar remembers him as an active, dedicated cop in the country.
"He was passionate and active in fighting crime for the country," he said when contacted today.
Zaman Khan was the first to resolve the hostage crisis at the AIA building along Jalan Ampang in 1975 and the Pudu Prison hostage situation in October 1986.
He was the director of Bukit Aman CID in 1993 and was involved in numerous high profile cases, including the case of Botak Chin (Wong Swee Chin) and P. Kalimuthu or Bentong Kali.
He also served as the Selangor police chief between 1975 and 1978, and as the Prisons Department director-general before retiring in 1997.
