Coway partners with Mercy Malaysia to provide RM400,000 in food aid

KUALA LUMPUR: As a result of lockdown measures and disruptions in key markets, many have lost their livelihoods and are currently experiencing hardship and poverty.

In light of this, Coway Malaysia has donated RM400,000 to Mercy Malaysia's Food Aid Programme, which seeks to deliver basic food supplies to vulnerable communities severely impacted by the pandemic.

This corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative is part of the company's commitment to stand alongside Malaysians in the fight against the challenges brought on by the pandemic.

As the Best Life Solution Company, Coway Malaysia aims to provide solutions that actively change lives. By collaborating with trusted organisations like Mercy Malaysia, the company seeks to directly impact communities in need.

The contribution will fund 3,600 food packs that consist of essential food items including rice, cooking oil, sardines, malt drinks and flour. These packs will be distributed to urban and rural B40 families, families of B40 frontliners, the disabled, refugee populations as well as shelter homes.

According to Kyle Choi Ki Ryong, managing director of Coway Malaysia, this partnership with Mercy Malaysia is in line with the company's 'We Stand As One' campaign.

"We have a duty to help those in need as we believe any action, no matter how small, can start the ripple effect towards creating a better world. We will continue to help communities in need, connect the disconnected and stand alongside all people in Malaysia – we will not stop until we overcome this challenge together," said Choi.

Since August, Coway Malaysia has worked hand in hand with Mercy Malaysia to deliver some 3,113 food packs to individuals and families in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Pahang, Johor, Melaka, Sabah, Perak and Penang.

The remaining food packs will be distributed over the month of September and will include those in other states like Terengganu and Sarawak.

Since March 2020, Mercy Malaysia has been delivering assistance through various methods, one of which is food aid.

"We truly appreciate the support by Coway Malaysia through this initiative and we do believe that we need to join hands and support each other to weather this challenge together," said Mohammad Said Alhudzari Ibrahim, general manager, programme operations division, Mercy Malaysia.
