Khairy makes surprise visit to Kajang Hospital

KUALA LUMPUR: Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin made a surprise visit to Kajang Hospital today.

Ministry officials confirmed the matter with the New Straits Times, saying that Khairy spent about an hour at the healthcare facility and met with staff and personnel.

A medical officer, Dr Khairul Hafidz (@khairul_hafidz) took to Twitter sharing the minister's surprise visit to the hospital on a weekend.

"Spotted in Hospital Kajang. This is what we call a real surprise visit. Some of the staff would surely have had their hearts 'pop out of their chest' seeing the minister arriving for the visit. Good job YB @Khairykj," he wrote.

The tweet included a photo of Khairy clad in a dark grey hoodie, jeans, black pants and sneakers with a batik-motif face mask as he chatted with hospital staff.

On Facebook, one user, Nik Aminudin Nik Shahar Shah shared photos of the minister spotted when he was chatting with the hospital staff.

"YB KJ, the Health Minister just casually visited Kajang Hospital, with only one officer accompanying him on a Saturday.

"Hospital's top management is usually off during the weekends. (I am) sure even the hospital director was not aware (of the visit).

"This is how we can know the real situation at Kajang Hospital. Hope the 2022 Budget will allocate more for the hospital," he said.

Kajang Hospital's history can be traced as far back as 1889, which was when its original building was built.
