Kemensah Heights landslide: Any renovation must obtain approval [NSTTV]

AMPANG JAYA: The government is currently reviewing whether the Kemensah Heights landslide was due to illegal renovation by bungalow owners along Jalan 7, Kemensah Heights.

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said based on the observations made this morning, there were houses with additional renovation works done.

"At this early stage, we are still waiting for the report from the Minerals and Geoscience Department that is currently investigating the incident and doing a study on the land structure.

"So, at the moment, I cannot confirm whether the landslide was caused by illegal renovation or other factors, " he said after visiting the landslide scene today. (Sunday).

He said renovation done by house owners must be in accordance with the specifications set by the Housing and Local Government Ministry, particularly the local authorities.

"In this matter, every housing construction and renovation here must obtain the approval from the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council which is responsible to approve or monitor extra construction or renovation works.

"This is crucial as works here involve houses at hill slopes."

19 houses including three bungalows involving 32 families were affected by a landslide at Jalan Kemensah Heights here on Friday night. However, no injuries were reported.
