About 10,000 in Sandakan fail to turn up for second vaccine dose

SANDAKAN: About 10,000 people around Sandakan did not return to Vaccination Centres (PPVs) to get their second Covid-19 vaccine dose.

Sandakan health officer Dr Johari Awang Besar said 42 per cent of the 363,000 population have yet to complete their vaccination.

"So far, the total number of those who has completed two-dose vaccinations is 42 per cent. For the first dose, it is 56 per cent.

"However, there are three per cent or about 10,000 people who have already received the first dose but did not come back for the second.

"We have since urged them to take the second dose as soon as possible" he told a press conference.

Meanwhile, commenting on the vaccination of teenagers in the district, he said, a total 53,500 people were eligible to receive the vaccine.

According to him, about 25,000 teenagers are citizens and another 28,500 are non-citizens.
