PM: Interstate travel only when vaccination of adults hit 90 per cent

KUALA LUMPUR: Interstate travel and the reopening of other tourist destinations, irrespective of those located on the islands and on the mainland, will be allowed after 90 per cent of the country's adult population has been fully inoculated.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the easing of such restrictions is also subjected to data and analysis conducted by the Health Ministry.

The matter was raised and decided upon when he chaired the Special Committee on Covid-19 Pandemic Management today.

"With the easing of restrictions, the government calls on the people to benefit from the privileges with full discipline and a sense of responsibility.

"Comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP) on Covid-19 prevention, wear a face mask, practise physical distancing and continue to maintain cleanliness as well as the new norms to protect yourself," he said in a statement today.

Ismail Sabri also announced that foreigners allowed to enter Malaysia through the country's international entry points must pay for their own RT-PCR swab tests.

The cost, he said, is free for Malaysians from abroad entering the country.

According to the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee (JKJAV), 80.2 per cent of the country's adult population has been fully vaccinated as of 11.59pm on Sept 21.
