Number of new Covid-19 infections dip to 13,754 cases today

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of daily Covid-19 infections in Malaysia continued to dip with 13,754 cases recorded as of noon today, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

In a statement today, he said the country's cumulative cases now stood at 2,156,678.

He said of the new cases, four were imported cases, with two in Sabah and one each in Johor and Kuala Lumpur.

Selangor is the state with the highest daily cases with 1,985 infections recorded over the past 24 hours, followed by Johor (1,913) and Sarawak (1,766).

They were followed by Sabah (1,629), Kelantan (1,264), Penang (1,052), Pahang (869), Perak (844), Kedah (783), Terengganu (664), Kuala Lumpur (383), Melaka (292), Negri Sembilan (175), Perlis (113), Putrajaya (14) and Labuan (eight).

"Of the 13,754 cases, 98.3 per cent (13,521 cases) were under Category 1 and 2 while 1.7 per cent (233 cases) were under Category 3, 4 and 5," he said.

Meanwhile, 16,628 recoveries were registered today, taking the total to 1,933,716 or 89.7 per cent.

Dr Noor Hisham said 1,107 patients were currently being treated in intensive care units, with 613 cases requiring ventilation support.

As of yesterday, the national infectivity rate (Rt) is at 0.92.

Pahang is the state with highest Rt at 1.03 followed by Perak (1.02), Terengganu and Perlis (1.01), Sarawak and Kelantan (1.00). The Rt in other states are below 1.00.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said 16 clusters were identified today – eight community clusters and seven workplace clusters.

These clusters had contributed a total of 341 cases today.

The eight community clusters involved six in Kelantan (Kampung Siresh Kota Baru, Jalan Gertak Ular Repek, Kampung Binjai Mulong, Kampung Bunga Mas, Kampung Bechah Semak Hilir and Kampung Kubang Chenok), as well as one each in Pahang (Kampung Telimau Pos Terisu) and Perak (Batu 8 Tanjung).

Of the seven workplace clusters, three were in Selangor (Industri Jalan 1/19C, Industri Jalan Semenyih Batu 19 and Industri Batu 29 Ijok), two in Johor (Jalan Er Luan and Shan Pengerang) and one each in Kelantan (Ladang Chiku Satu) and Sabah (Batu 46 Tulid).
