Msia-Spore travel can resume after mutual recognition of vaccination certs

PAGOH: Malaysia and Singapore will soon recognise each other's Covid-19 vaccination certificates which would see the resumption of movement between the two countries.

National Recovery Council chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the matter was recently discussed and agreed upon during his call with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsein Loong.

"Based on the current Covid-19 situation and vaccination rate, he may be a bit cautious.

"Malaysians want to go to Singapore because of the close relationship between the two countries, so when the borders are closed, it becomes a problem.

"When we recognise each other's Covid-19 vaccination certificates, the movement between the two countries can be facilitated. Then we can look into opening the border with Thailand and other international borders," said Muhyiddin.

He was speaking to the media after chairing a meeting of the Johor Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) leadership at the party's Pagoh division office.

Muhyiddin said all issues would be considered and when the country's vaccination rate reaches a safe level, the district, state and international borders will be opened.

"In all our meetings, we always discuss when we will open our borders to local and foreign tourists.

"We will look at all the data and science as well as the opinions of experts from the Health Ministry and the Home Ministry in terms of border security," said Muhyiddin.
