Anwar receives letter from PM confirming ministerial-level amenities

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has received a confirmation letter from the prime minister, upgrading his status as the opposition leader with ministerial-level amenities.

Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob handed over the letter to Anwar before the second meeting of the Steering Committee on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Transformation and Political Stability at the parliament meeting room.

This was confirmed by opposition party chief whip, Anthony Loke who said Anwar was now entitled to all facilities enjoyed by a minister.

"Before the meeting, the PM handed over the confirmation letter to the opposition leader to upgrade the status of his office on par with a ministerial one," he said in a Facebook post last night.

On Sept 13, the federal government and Pakatan Harapan (PH) made history when they signed the MoU on Transformation and Political Stability.

The content of the MoU includes empowerment of the Covid-19 plan, parliamentary reforms, independence of the judicial institution, Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), and the formation of steering committees.

Meanwhile, Anthony said the meeting discussed the development of implementing new agendas which had been agreed together.

He said this includes amendments to the Federal Constitution which will be tabled in the Parliament sitting.

"Meetings will be held on Mondays every two weeks and will bring a new political culture to our country.

"Despite the political differences between the parties, we can still sit together to discuss and find common grounds for the interests of the country," he said.
