Sabah to kick-off Covid-19 booster shots tomorrow

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will kick off Covid-19 booster shots tomorrow, said state Immunisation Programme director Datuk Shahelmey Yahya.

He said the third round of vaccination will begin with those who have completed their second dose at least six months ago.

"Frontliners and elderly citizens will get first (priority) at this early stage of (vaccination)," he said, adding that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine would be used for the booster shot.

Despite the programme starting tomorrow, the https://covidnow.moh.gov.my/ website indicated that there were already four people who had so far received the booster dose.

Sabah started its first phase immunisation programme for 42,117 front liners in March this year and advanced to second phase inoculation for the elderly, high-risk group with comorbidities, and the disabled on April 19.

As of yesterday, 70.8 per cent of the adult population in Sabah had completed their vaccination.

Today, Sabah recorded 695 Covid-19 cases, which is an increase of 198 from yesterday's figure.

The increase was because of the high number of cases in several districts, with Kota Belud leading with 123 cases.

There are only four Covid-19 cases under Category 3, 2 in Category 4 and one in Category 5.
