Sarawak remains state with highest Covid-19 fatalities

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia reported 84 deaths due to Covid-19 on Tuesday, including 20 brought-in-dead (BID) cases.

Based on data shared on CovidNow and Github, Sarawak remained the state with highest fatalities with19 deaths reported including six BIDs, followed by Sabah that logged 16 deaths including 10 BIDs and Perak with 12 deaths, one BID.

Selangor recorded eight deaths, Terengganu (seven), Johor (six), Kelantan (five), Melaka, Pahang, Penang and Kuala Lumpur (one), while no fatalities were recorded in the other states.

A total 92 deaths were reported on Monday.

The data revealed that 46.5 per cent of the 715 reported deaths in the past 14-days were fully vaccinated; 45.2 per cent were unvaccinated and 8.3 per cent of them were partially vaccinated.

The data also showed that of the victims, 76.1 per cent, were aged 60-year-old and above; 23.4 per cent from the 18-year-old to 59-year-old group; 12-year-old to 17-year-old (0.4 per cent) and 0-year-old to 11-year-old (0.1 per cent).

Meanwhile, 5,726 new cases and 5,607 recoveries were reported as of noon Tuesday, raising the total to 2,442,224 and 2,340,390 respectively.

Cases in all states were below the 1,000 mark. Selangor remained the state with most daily cases reported at 929, followed by Sarawak with 713 cases and Kelantan (685).

Sabah logged 565 infections, Johor (488), Kuala Lumpur (339) Penang (378), Kedah (346), Terengganu (292), Perak (257), Melaka (253), Pahang (219), Negri Sembilan (199), Putrajaya (37), Perlis (23) and Labuan (three).

Covid-19 active cases in Malaysia now stood at 73,258. Of the total, 77.1 per cent (56,484) are currently observing home quarantine (PRCs), 13.1 per cent (9,580) at the Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres, 9 per cent (6,610) are hospitalised and the remaining 0.6 per cent (584) receiving treatment at the intensive care units (ICUs).

The nationwide PKRCs utilisation rate is at 36.3 per cent; hospital beds (68.8 per cent); ICUs (61.6 per cent) and ventilators (41.3 per cent).

On vaccination, 73.6 per cent (24,042,758) of the total population have completed both their doses of Covid-19 vaccine, consisting 22,191,734 adults and 1,851,024 adolescents.

In terms of age group, 94.8 per cent of the adult population are fully vaccinated while 58.8 per cent of adolescents are fully vaccinated.

Some 7,463,324 people or 22.9 per cent of the total population are unvaccinated.
