Grab assures customers with cancelled bookings of full refunds

KUALA LUMPUR: Grab Malaysia will refund customers who had their bookings or food orders cancelled due to the recent service disruption.

Earlier today, the ride-hailing platform was hit by an outage, prompting a barrage of brickbats from frustrated customers.

The sudden outage also took down the company's platforms in Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia.

Grab Malaysia, via its Twitter account, responded to distressed customers that the pre-authorisation charge for cancelled or unallocated orders will be refunded back to their bank accounts within three to 30 days.

When contacted by the New Straits Times, a Grab spokesperson also confirmed that "consumers will be refunded if they don't get the order."

Grab customers are typically charged with a payment authorisation charge when they book a ride or make food orders.

The withheld amount serves to ensure that the customer has sufficient funds available for payment for a completed booking.

The company said, the authorisation charge will only be replaced with a payment activity after the booking is completed.

However, customers will be reimbursed with the full amount if the booking is cancelled.
