Health Ministry finalising Covid-19 heightened alert system

PUTRAJAYA: The government will announce movement restrictions involving several sectors when early signs of a Covid-19 surge is detected.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said this is one of the details of the still-to-be-finalised heightened alert system.

"We will announce the system once it is approved by the Covid-19 pandemic management committee. It includes indicators; restrictions will be enforced should they being breached," he told reporters today.

However, he gave his assurances that the proposed restrictions would not involve lockdowns, and instead limits activities on several sectors.

Khairy said such restrictions are aimed at helping reduce the number of Covid-19 cases without affecting the economic sector and other aspects.

"We're fine-tuning it to ensure that it can meet two outcomes, which is to break or slow down the chain of (Covid-19) transmission, with minimal disruption to the economy.

"On the deployment of our personnel, the Health Ministry has recently held a table top exercise. We also have a rapid response task force, where we have identified (measures to be taken) should there be a surge in cases at any state."

Hospital admissions for Covid-19 patients were reported on the rise in five states, namely, Labuan, Penang, Pahang, Kelantan and Johor.
