Compensation for eight applicants for AEFI cases being processed

PUTRAJAYA: The government is processing the payouts for eight applications for adverse events following immunisation (AEFI), with a total cost of RM132,500.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said as of Nov 25, a total of 93 applications had been received and from the total, eight applications were approved by the ministry's main committee.

"To put it into context, there are only eight (AEFI cases) out of 52.5 million doses that have already been administered until today.

"The payout is being processed by the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), and all eight involve hospitalisation cases, no deaths.

"Meanwhile, 78 other cases are being reviewed, and seven have been rejected as they are not serious AEFI," he said during a press conference today.

He said those applying for the compensation must be categorised as serious AEFI by the Covid-19 Vaccine Special Pharmacovigilance Committee, within three months after receiving the vaccination.

The AEFI report must also be sent to the Health Ministry's National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) by the treating health personnel.

"The payout value is not more than RM50,000 for AEFI requiring long-term treatment in hospitals, and not more than RM500,000 in the event of permanent disability or death," he added.
