Mandatory Covid test for primary schoolkids from Wednesday

KUALA LUMPUR: Primary school pupils will undergo the mandatory Covid-19 tests on a rotational basis every Wednesday.

The Education Ministry, in a statement, today said the ministry had supplied Covid-19 Self-Test Kits to primary schools under its purview.

This, it said, was to ensure that the screening test could be carried out in accordance with the Covid-19 self-test implementation procedures contained in the School Management and Operation Guidelines 3.0.

The ministry said this in response to Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin's press conference on Nov 26 where he had announced that the Covid-19 rotation tests for primary school students are required to prevent clusters in schools.

"We welcome the Health Ministry's recommendation and will conduct the test on 10 per cent of the student population in each school on a weekly basis in line with the National Covid-19 Testing Strategy set by the health ministry.

"We will issue a notification letter over this requirement, which is to be implemented every Wednesday, on school days.

"It is also recommended that this ruling be applied to all primary private educational institutions registered under the ministry.

"The Education Ministry is always committed to continue to do its best," the statement read.
