SAR at Cameron's landslide area may be called off

IPOH: Authorities said the search and rescue (SAR) operation at KM27.10 of Jalan Simpang Pulai-Blue Valley in Cameron Highlands where a deadly landslide took place yesterday could be called off today if there are no new indicators.

Perak Fire and Department assistant director (operation) Muhamad Shahrizal Aris said the operation resumed at 7am today after it was called off at 2am.

Muhammad Shahrizal said rescuers would resume with the operation to move the tonnes of debris from the landslide in search of possible victims.

"We have also deployed the K-9 unit from Kuala Lumpur for a sweep of the whole area to ensure there are no more victims.

"Should the first and second sweep results be negative and with no new leads, we may call of the SAR," he said when met at the scene.

Yesterday, it was reported that two men died in the landslide.

The dead were lorry driver, Muhammad Hafiz Hamdi, 31 while the other was the driver of a Toyota Alphard, Tan Chee Heng, 36.
