KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government has tabled a RM4.596 billion budget for next year.
While tabling the surplus state budget themed "Economy Revived, People Prosper", state Finance Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said it was based on the state's aspiration and commitment in reviving the economy that was affected by Covid-19.
Sabah's 2022 Budget will also improve the wellbeing of the people in line with the state's "Sabah Maju Jaya" (SMJ) direction, he said.
"To realise the objective of this budget, the state government has proposed an expenditure of RM4.596 billion with estimated revenue collection of RM4.707 billion.
"This means that the 2022 Sabah Budget is a surplus budget worth RM110.68 million," he said while tabling it at the state assembly sitting here today.
Hajiji, who is Sabah Chief Minister said it was the second budget tabled after the SMJ was launched on March 29 last year.
The SMJ roadmap is based on the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah's akujanji (pledge) for the people's aspirations to become the main agenda for state development.
SMJ is supported by three main thrusts on economic growth involving agriculture, industry and tourism; human capital and people's welfare; and green infrastructure and sustainability network.
"Since the launch of SMJ, various initiatives under the three main thrusts have been and are being actively implemented for the benefit of the people and the state.
"Although the full implementation of some of the initiatives under this plan have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, their progress status is encouraging."
Hajiji said the performance of each state ministry would be presented annually starting March 29 next year.
