Simpang Pulai landslide: First sweep shows no more victims

IPOH: The first sweep of the deadly landslide area at KM27.10 of Jalan Simpang Pulai - Blue Valley has unearthed no new buried vehicles or victims.

The landslide, which occurred yesterday, has so far claimed the lives of two people.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Muhamad Shahrizal Aris said a sweep by the search and rescue (SAR) team at 1.30pm, aided by two dogs from the K-9 unit, have not unearthed any new leads.

"So far, the results are negative. A second sweep of the whole area will be carried out about 5.30pm to ensure there are no more victims.

"Should the second sweep result also come out negative, we will discuss with the police to call off the SAR operation here," he told reporters at the scene.

The SAR operation was called off at 2am last night and resumed at 7am today.

Two men perished in the landslide. They were lorry driver Muhammad Hafiz Hamdi, 31, and Tan Chee Heng, 36, who was in a Toyota Alphard.
