Omicron index case: 7 close contacts test negative in RT-PCR test today

KUALA LUMPUR: The index case of the Omicron variant in Malaysia and her seven close contacts have tested negative in a Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test today.

This was confirmed by Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a tweet today.

The index case was a fully vaccinated 19-year-old girl from South Africa who arrived in Malaysia via Singapore on Nov 19.

The girl, who is studying at a private higher educational institution in Ipoh, Perak, had travelled from KLIA to Ipoh via a bus trip that was organised by her university.

Dr Noor Hisham said the seven close contacts who tested negative include the bus driver, a university staff and the girl's three university friends and her two roommates.
