MoH identifies 6 new Covid-19 clusters

KUALA LUMPUR: A total 32.3 per cent of the adult population (18-years-old and above), have received their Covid-19 booster shots as of Friday (Jan 7).

Based on data shared on the Health Ministry's CovidNow site, to date, 7,570,846 adults have taken their third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, equivalent to 23.2 per cent of the total population.

Yesterday, 216,668 doses of vaccines were administered nationwide, including 210,658 doses of boosters.

Since the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme rolled out in Feb last year, 59,033,667 doses of vaccines have been inoculated.

On Friday, the coronavirus claimed another 16 lives in Malaysia, taking the overall toll to 31,644.

Among the deaths, two were brought-in-dead cases with one each reported in Kedah and Penang.

Of the 16 fatalities, four were in Johor; Sabah (three); Kedah and Selangor (two each); Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sarawak and Terengganu (one each).

The hospitalisation rate in five states – Negri Sembilan (17 per cent), Penang (32 per cent), Sabah (22 per cent), Selangor (17 per cent) and Putrajaya (19 per cent) – was on the rise if compared to data a week ago.

As of yesterday, 66.7 per cent of hospital beds in Malaysia were utilised.

Melaka has the highest utilisation rate at 83.8 per cent, Terengganu (75.8 per cent), Kedah (74.6 per cent), Kelantan (73.5 per cent) and Johor (72.1 per cent).

The intensive care unit (ICU) beds were 57.6 per cent used, ventilators (36.7 per cent) while 27.8 per cent of the Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC) beds were occupied.

As of Friday noon, 3,381 new cases and 3,447 recoveries were reported to the Ministry, bringing the respective toll to 2,769,533 and 2,708,739.

Selangor recorded the highest number of daily cases at 879, followed by Kelantan that registered 385 cases, Johor (299), Kuala Lumpur (271), Sabah (242), Pahang (226), Penang (219), Kedah (216), Negri Sembilan (172), Perak (161), Melaka (141), Terengganu (94), Putrajaya (30), Sarawak (18), Perlis and Labuan (14 each).

At the same time, the Ministry had also identified six new clusters – four workplace and two community – in six states.

The workplace clusters were Lok Lanas Ketereh 2 in Kota Baru, Kelantan; Jalan Boulevard in Kepong and Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur; Industri Tiga Jalan Bukit Kemuning in Klang, Selangor; and Putra Tiga C that was identified in Putrajaya, Cheras and Hulu Langat.

Two community clusters were KM 32 Pondok Kempas in Jasin and Melaka Tengah, Melaka; and Sri Semantan in Temerloh, Pahang.

Currently, 39,697 people in Malaysia are infected with Covid-19, with a majority under home quarantine (81.9 per cent); PKRC (8.9 per cent); hospitalised (8.5 per cent) and ICU (0.7 per cent) in which 0.3 per cent (114 patients) are ventilated.
