NIBONG TEBAL: A section of the Pulau Burung landfill in Jalan Byram, here, caught fire this afternoon.
Nibong Tebal fire station operations officer Noor Asfariza Mohamad Abdul Kadir said they received an emergency call about 5.12pm.
"As soon as we received the call, we immediately rushed to the scene. The landfill measures about 4.05ha but the estimated area burnt is 300 by 300 sq ft.
"We formed a 'fire break' using an excavator to prevent the fire from spreading to a wider area," she said this evening.
As of 6pm, said Noor Asfariza, the fire had yet to be put out completely.
"We are working to control the fire by using water from machinery and water tankers. The fire extinguishing operation is also assisted by other volunteer fire brigades," she added.
No one was injured in the incident.
