KUALA LUMPUR: Covid-19 infections have been on the rise across several states in the country over the past two weeks, even in states with high vaccination coverage.
According to the Health Ministry's data shared on CovidNow and GitHub, the Klang Valley, Labuan, and Negri Sembilan showed a rising trend in daily infections from Jan 1 to 14.
The Klang Valley recorded the highest jump from 997 cases on Jan 1 to 1,320 on Jan 14, followed by Negri Sembilan with 97 cases logged on Jan 1 to 157 on Jan 14.
Daily cases in Selangor rose from 786 infections on Jan 1 to 1,006 on Jan 14, while in Kuala Lumpur it increased from 20 to 34 during the same period.
Cases in Putrajaya spiked from 20 on Jan 1 to 34 cases on Jan 14 and in Labuan, daily infections rose from two to eight cases within the two week period.
Other states, meanwhile, saw a dip in fresh Covid-19 infections from Jan 1 to Jan 14 - Melaka (cases dropped from 182 to 166), Terengganu (130 to 56), Sarawak (24 to 13), Sabah (264 to 244), Penang (206 to 198), Perlis (22 to 15), Perak (164 to 137), Pahang (268 to 204), Kelantan (360 to 270), Kedah (254 to 178), and Johor (426 to 380).
To date, 79.7 per cent of the total population have received at least one dose of their Covid-19 vaccination with 78.6 per cent fully vaccinated.
In total, 25,674,070 people had completed their vaccination.
The Klang Valley has the highest percentage of fully vaccinated individuals at 94.5 per cent, followed by Penang (86 per cent), Negri Sembilan (84.1 per cent), Johor (80.6 per cent), Perlis (80.2 per cent), Labuan (80.1 per cent), Melaka (76.9 per cent), Sarawak (75.7 per cent), Perak (74.1 per cent), Kedah (72.1 per cent), Pahang (70.1 per cent), Terengganu (69.9 per cent), Kelantan (61.8 per cent) and Sabah (61.3 per cent).
As of Jan 14, 88.1 per cent of adolescents have been fully vaccinated.
Another 232,124 booster shots were administered on Friday, raising the total number of booster doses given to date to 9,043,384.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry reported another 12 Covid-19 deaths on Friday, raising the country's death toll to 31,762.
Of the 12 fatalities, two were brought-in-dead (BID) cases, increasing the nationwide BID tally to 6,409.
Selangor logged the highest number of deaths at four, followed by Terengganu (two), Penang (two), Pahang (two), Johor (one) and Kedah (one).
No new fatalities were reported in the remaining states.
According to CovidNow, to date, Malaysia recorded 10 deaths per 10,000 people. Selangor, Labuan, the Klang Valley including Kuala Lumpur logged the highest number of deaths at 15 per 10,000 people.
This was followed by Negri Sembilan (12 deaths per 10,000 people), Johor (ten), Melaka (ten), Kedah (ten), Penang (ten), Sabah (seven), Kelantan (seven), Sarawak (six), Perak (six), Terengganu (six), Perlis (five), Pahang (five) and Putrajaya (two).
The country registered 3,346 fresh infections on Friday, raising the cumulative number of cases to 2,802,263, including 40,558 active cases.
Of the active cases, 81.5 per cent (33,075) are undergoing home quarantine, 9.8 per cent (3,984) are placed in Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRC), and 8.1 per cent (3,295) hospitalised.
A total of 204 patients are being treated at intensive care units (ICU) at healthcare facilities nationwide with 95 (0.2 per cent) of them ventilated.
The Klang Valley has the most active cases in ICU at 48 (35 in Selangor and 13 in Kuala Lumpur), followed by Sabah (29), Johor (20), Kedah (19), Perak (19), Kelantan (15), Pahang (14), Terengganu (13), Penang (11), Negri Sembilan (five), Melaka (four), Sarawak (three), Perlis (two), and Labuan (two).
In terms of ICU utilisation, states with over 70 per cent utilisation are Putrajaya (80 per cent) and Kuala Lumpur (72.4 per cent).
