No restrictions on 5-11 year olds if not vaccinated for Covid-19

KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry has assured that no restrictions will be imposed on children aged five to 11 who do not get the Covid-19 vaccine.

Its minister Khairy Jamaluddin explained that the children will not face restrictions similar to adults who chose not to get vaccinated.

"This programme (vaccination) is not compulsory.

"Register your children in MySJ (MySejahtera). Protect them from Covid-19," he said in a tweet today.

The government will be inoculating children aged between five and 11 years old with the Covid-19 vaccine.

They will only be administered with paediatric doses of Pfizer-BioNTech's Cominarty vaccine which is proven to be safe and effective.

Meanwhile, he also said that the ministry agrees with the view of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob that there will not be lockdown restrictions anymore.

He said that the standard operating procedures (SOPs) will be relaxed from time to time.

"If there are restrictions, it will be targeted, temporary and proportionate, such as suspension of Umrah trips," he said in a separate tweet.
