Over 11 million have received Covid-19 vaccine booster shots

KUALA LUMPUR: Over 11 million people in Malaysia have received their Covid-19 booster jabs, up to Wednesday.

According to the Health Ministry's CovidNow portal, 48.4 per cent of adults in the country have taken their booster shots, including 203,943 individuals who received their jabs on Wednesday.

To date, 78.7 per cent of the country's population (25,704,857 people) have been fully inoculated with two vaccine doses.

Malaysia, on Wednesday, clocked 4,744 new Covid-19 infections and reported 21 new clusters. The new clusters were made up of 13 educational clusters, five workplace clusters, two community clusters and one high-risk group cluster.

The country also logged 12 new fatalities the same day, including two brought-in-dead (BID) cases who died before receiving medical assistance.

Since the pandemic hit our shores in March 2020, some 31,930 people have succumbed to the virus.

On average, Malaysia reported 45 deaths for every ten million people in the country for the past two weeks. The country also detected 15 new cases for every 10,000 people within the same period.

At present, the country has 46,785 active Covid-19 cases. This figure includes 39,394 individuals currently undergoing home quarantine, 4,380 placed in low-risk quarantine and treatment centres, 2,882 receiving treatment at hospitals and the remaining 129 are being treated at Intensive Care Units (ICU).

Meanwhile, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country's infectivity rate (Rt) has climbed from 1.09 on Tuesday to 1.13 on Wednesday. The national average, he said, stood at 1.13.

Negri Sembilan, for the sixth consecutive day, recorded the highest Rt value in the country at 1.18.
