PM: Efforts should be redoubled for peaceful solution of Russia-Ukraine conflict [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Every effort should be redoubled to seek a peaceful and amicable solution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

In a statement today, the premier said the solution could be through dialogue and negotiation based on international law and the United Nations Charter.

"Malaysia is concerned over the escalation of conflict in the country, and strongly urges all concerned parties to immediately take steps to de-escalate and prevent loss of lives and devastation.

"The United Nations Security Council must carry out its primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security," he said.

Ismail Sabri added Malaysia will continue to support such efforts in the interest of maintaining regional and international peace and security, as well as promoting greater prosperity.

Meanwhile, on the latest development of Malaysians in the country, Ismail Sabri said the Malaysian Embassy in Kyiv was currently undertaking evacuation of the remaining eight nationals and two of their foreign dependents.

Thirteen Malaysians had already left the country in the past weeks.
