Khairy: Virtual consultation for Covid-19 testing to be available soon

KUALA LUMPUR: Those requiring supervised professional Covid-19 self-testing may soon be tested via live virtual consultation, instead of being present at a clinic.

The Health Ministry described the service as being a tele-medicine initiative, offered digitally without having an individual physically present at a health facility.

Its minister Khairy Jamaluddin said this service was based on documents issued by the Malaysian Medical Council titled "Malaysian Medical Council Advisory on Virtual Consultation (during the COVID-19 pandemic)".

"This enables individuals to obtain certified self-test RTK-antigen results by a medical practitioner faster, saving time, cost, and reducing infection risk to others.

"The supervision can only be made by a medical practitioner registered with MMC. The virtual service must be made 'live' to prevent fraud in test results, if video recording was to be allowed, and the reporting of the test results shall use the e-Covid platform," he said in a press conference in Parliament, today.
