Private university to provide 400 laptops to new students from B40 group

KUALA LUMPUR: A private university, City University Malaysia, has allocated 400 laptops for their newly enrolled students from the B40 group this year.

Last weekend, City University Malaysia deputy vice chancellor Professor Dr Mustaffa Halabi Azahari along with the registrar Dr Rosnizah Shaari handed out 69 laptops to their students during the Open Day celebration held at the main campus.

"As we all know, computers have become an integral tool in modern society with today's learning methods also dependent on technology. In line with that, we want our students to be better prepared as they pursue their academic and career goals.

"Therefore, our students, especially those from the B40 group were each given a laptop to ease their journey in their studies," said the deputy vice chancellor.

He added that the remaining 331 laptops would be given to their students in stages throughout the semesters this year.

"Two years into the pandemic, we are aware that we must be well equipped with the associated skills such as technology literacy, analytic literacy and human-centred literacy that should be in line to create greater opportunities in the future.

"We strongly believe in shaping the curriculum around how we want students to learn, which is with a wide range of subjects and flexible ways to offer that variety.

"This is why we are determined to ensure that our students receive their laptops while we also organised the Open Day celebration with interactive booths for them to explore," he stated.

He said the combination of good skills, technological acceptance and digital transformation would allow students to create their own opportunity to face the challenges and make them market ready for the industry.

The interactive booths include eight faculties — Allied Health Sciences; Business Management; Creative Industries; Engineering; Information Technology; Education and Liberal Studies; Architecture and Built Environment, and Hospitality and Tourism.
