SEREMBAN: King of Fruits connoisseurs be prepared, the Negri Sembilan Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) will make five tonnes of durians available as part of its 'Jom Makan Durian Kampung' programme.
The two-day event, which kicked off today at the FAMA Distribution Hub in Jalan Labu, here, is being organised by Fama's marketing contract marketing partner (RPKP) in collaboration with entrepreneurs under the guidance of Fama.
RPKP chief Azhar Mohamad Buang said apart from durian kampung, red prawn (D175), musang king (D197) and IOI will be made available to consumers. He said the maiden programme was aimed at helping entrepreneurs market their agricultural products as well as ensuring consumers obtained quality durians at a reasonable price during the king of fruit season.
"This programme sees the involvement of 10 entrepreneurs under the guidance of Negri Sembilan FAMA. The price offered is between RM7 to RM8 per kilogram (kg) for kampung durian, while other types of durians are sold for between RM25 to RM50 a kg.
"The buffet package is also provided for kampung durians at only at RM25 per adult and RM10 for children under 12," he said when met here today.
He said the supply of kampung durians was from around Rembau and Tampin while the red prawn, IOI and musang king variety were from Raub, Pahang.
The response from the public has been quite encouraging, as they tasted quality durians, as only the best fruits were selected to be sold.
"I am confident that a high number of fruits will be sold by tomorrow because many durian enthusiasts have come not only from the district but also from outside Negri Sembilan, especially bordering the state," he said.
Durian lover Abdul Halim Ibrahim, 40, said he was satisfied with the prices of durians offered by the state FAMA because the durian provided was skinned and nothing was damaged. According to him, visitors can also choose the desired fruit and if the fruits are of low quality, they can be exchanged with other fruits.
